Nonprofits: Tell Your Story and Attract More Donors

One of the four-legged stars of the Top Dogg K9 Foundation’s new video.

I come from a broadcast news background. Storytelling is just a part of my DNA. I love meeting people and interviewing them because everyone has a story. So does every organization.

As nonprofits struggle to find new donors and hang on to loyal ones during COVID-19, they must be able to demonstrate how donors’ money will be used. You can send people a folder full of charts and graphs along with your mission and vision statements. However, why not tell your story in an emotional way that will prove their money makes a difference in the lives of the people (or animals!) your organization touches?

I am blessed beyond words to have a client that believes in the power of visual storytelling. One of the ways his foundation donates to non-profits is to give them the gift of a professionally-produced video, so it can open doors to potential donors and volunteers. The videos also allow his employees to see the impacts of organizations around the world, opening them up to unlimited volunteer opportunities. It is a huge win-win because it is so much more than just writing a check to an organization.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video can be worth thousands of dollars to your organization.

Enjoy watching one of my most recent stories about the Top Dogg K9 Foundation which provides service dogs and support to veterans suffering from PTSD. A huge thank you to Blake, Davette and Sheila along with all the veterans and volunteers who helped tell this inspiring story! Thank you to Jackson Healthcare for making it all possible!

Next up: How one organization dedicated to in-person retreats for families living through childhood cancer has had to change the way it supports families during the coronavirus pandemic and how they used the time to make their organization’s mission even stronger than pre-COVID-19.
