“It’s not just policy, it’s practice. It’s not just profit, it’s people. Communicating this sets your organization up for lasting success.”
Ryan Roemerman is a partner at Lexicon Strategies and is a communications, public policy, and business strategist. His work spans state, national, and global projects, where he excels in moving innovative ideas from concept to practice, guiding clients through organizational transformation, and creating social impact through strategic storytelling.
He began his career by co-founding a nonprofit that helped pass safe school and civil rights laws by helping young people tell their stories and motivating public and political action. He launched a national campaign in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education and The White House to honor those creating safe learning environments and developed a certification program to help schools meet law requirements and build their capacity to advance equity. The program started in Iowa, served as a model in Oregon, and was replicated in Washington, D.C. with support from the U.S. Department of Education, Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, D.C. Office of Human Rights, and Child Trends, with funding from the National Institute of Justice.
Ryan went on to manage communications and public policy for Out Leadership, a global LGBTQ business advising firm. Since then, Ryan served as a long-time consultant to the National Center for Civil and Human Rights as the founding executive director of the LGBTQ Institute. Additionally, Ryan was senior strategist and director of innovation, helping refine The Center’s leadership and advocacy efforts. His strategy and implementation clients have included the Atlanta Braves and the American Medical Association Foundation, among others.
Throughout his career, Ryan has utilized partnerships, relationship building, and research to create policies and practices that change lives; campaigns that focus on coalition development and storytelling to amplify messaging; and tactical insights to help organizations pivot and thrive.
Based in Atlanta, Ryan has served on a variety of nonprofit boards including youthSpark, The Alliance Theater Advisory Board, and as Well-Being Effectiveness Impact Area Advisor for the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. Most recently, he co-chaired the Mayor’s Inaugural LGBTQ Advisory Board. Ryan is a graduate of the University of Iowa.
